Behind every successful business, is a person driving that company forward, striving to offer the best services, in a professional manner, with experience and passion. Our latest article looks at how it all started for Chad, where it’s going, and the exciting future plans for Midlands Health & Safety Consultancy.
Chad started out his career as an apprentice bricklayer on £90 a week after completing college with a NVQ level 2 qualification in brickwork and successfully represented Walsall college in national competitions. He enjoyed his work and was a competent full-time bricklayer until the recession sadly hit in the later 2000’s. After a rethink, he then put his energy into achieving his HGV licence at 21 and worked on a tipper lorry at the quarries for a short while before moving into the crane industry to become a crane operator, a job which he absolutely loved and thrived at. The safety of crane operations and liaising with safety teams on site got him thinking about his career path and how he could apply his experiences to help others. The health and safety career path then began.
After personally investing £4000 and paying for NEBOSH Construction, general, environmental management, and fire safety certificates, to name a few, he struggled to find a job in the health and safety industry. Chad’s Aunty owned a transport and storage business, and gave him a wonderful opportunity to implement a safety management system and help with transport and warehousing tasks, therefore, completing a dual role within the organisation. He took this opportunity with open arms and embraced the chance to put his skills into practice. He built a system from scratch, learning on the job and perfected it over time.
During Chad’s time there he was a shortlisted finalist for the rising star award in health and safety in the transport and storage sector 2019, and even had a case study wrote about him and the company from NEBOSH, which demonstrated how health and safety can benefit small businesses . The company now has certification in ISO9001,14001 and 45001 with a certification body that is UKAS accredited. After this great achievement, it was at this moment, he decided to explore an opportunity as a full time consultant under Midland Health and Safety Consultancy.
