The man behind the business – Chad Bott

Chad Bott Midlands Health and safety Consultancy

Behind every successful business, is a person driving that company forward, striving to offer the best services, in a professional manner, with experience and passion. Our latest article looks at how it all started for Chad, where it’s going, and the exciting future plans for Midlands Health & Safety Consultancy.

Chad started out his career as an apprentice bricklayer on £90 a week after completing college with a NVQ level 2 qualification in brickwork and successfully represented Walsall college in national competitions. He enjoyed his work and was a competent full-time bricklayer until the recession sadly hit in the later 2000’s. After a rethink, he then put his energy into achieving his HGV licence at 21 and worked on a tipper lorry at the quarries for a short while before moving into the crane industry to become a crane operator, a job which he absolutely loved and thrived at. The safety of crane operations and liaising with safety teams on site got him thinking about his career path and how he could apply his experiences to help others. The health and safety career path then began.

After personally investing £4000 and paying for NEBOSH Construction, general, environmental management, and fire safety certificates, to name a few, he struggled to find a job in the health and safety industry. Chad’s Aunty owned a transport and storage business, and gave him a wonderful opportunity to implement a safety management system and help with transport and warehousing tasks, therefore, completing a dual role within the organisation. He took this opportunity with open arms and embraced the chance to put his skills into practice. He built a system from scratch, learning on the job and perfected it over time.

During Chad’s time there he was a shortlisted finalist for the rising star award in health and safety in the transport and storage sector 2019, and even had a case study wrote about him and the company from NEBOSH, which demonstrated how health and safety can benefit small businesses . The company now has certification in ISO9001,14001 and 45001 with a certification body that is UKAS accredited. After this great achievement, it was at this moment, he decided to explore an opportunity as a full time consultant under Midland Health and Safety Consultancy.

Chad’s personal future plans are to complete his IPD process to become a Chartered member of IOSH by the end of 2022 and he hopes to enrol on a master’s degree with NEBOSH in September 2023. He also wants to keep working the field as much as possible as he says, “every day is a learning day” and is always willing and eager to learn more, and apply his skills and expand his ever growing knowledge.

Company ethos

Chad’s company ethos for MHSC is simple and effective in providing a bespoke personal service that connects with his clients and all the employees to become one of the team, and thrive in their roles, in the safest way possible. He provides a 100% service level to all his clients and takes pride in only ever being a phone call away when needed and going above and beyond to meet all requirements for any organisation. He installs confidence in his clients to ensure them that they are part of them and their working team, involving all parts of the businesses from the floor to director level, to promote a successful health and safety culture whatever the size of the organisation.

Personal interests

In his spare time Chad has a keen interest in sports and fitness and enjoys playing rugby for his local club and also trains at his local boxing club. To relax after a busy day, he likes to take his dog Taio for a walk with his partner and as the weather improves, looks forward to enjoying BBQ’s in the summer with his family and friends.
